RESOLUTION NO. 3~ ~ 2-~~ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY <br />COMMENDING SKLYAR DIGGINS OF WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL FOR HER MANY ACADEMIC <br />TALENTS AND FOR BEING SELECTED THE NATION'S NO. 1 POINT GUARD IN THE 2009 CLASS <br />~~1~,~~, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to recognize the Skylar <br />Diggins, a senior at Washington High School, who has a 3.87 GPA; is a member of the National Honor Society; <br />is ranked in the top ten (10) in her high school class; and volunteers with youth groups at the Martin Luther <br />King Recreation Center; and <br />"~~, the Common Council recognizes the Skylar Diggins is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 2009 <br />class by ESPN HoopGuriz, and as a point guard for the South Bend Washington Lady Panthers Basketball <br />Team is known as "one of the most savvy players on the court...and an incredible competitor..."; and <br />"mod, Skylar Diggins stands 5' 9" and "...being left handed really gives defenses fits", & as a <br />proficient 3-point shooter has excellent range a few feet behind the arc, along with her pull-up jumper. Skylar. <br />was named to the AP All-State Girls Basketball Team for the 2007-2008 season; as a sophomore in 2006 <br />played in the City Securities Hall of Fame Classic & was named to the AAU National All-American Team; and <br />"~h, Skylar Diggins was named the "Burger King Outstanding Student Athlete of the Week" in <br />February of this year; was named the 2008 Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year which <br />recognizes "outstanding athletic excellence as well as academic achievement and exemplary character" with <br />Skylar leading the Lady Panthers to a 23-3 record and led the team to their 3`d state title championship game <br />this past basketball season, where she averaged astate-best 29.5 points per game; and <br />~~., Skylar Diggins was selected to be a member of the 2008 USA Basketball's Women's U18 <br />National Team, a 12-member squad chosen after three days of trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in <br />Colorado Springs, and competed in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women in July in Buenos, <br />Aires; and was also selected as a Parade 1St-team and USA Today 3`d team All-American this year. <br />P/l~ou, eT~~ ~ ~~~~ by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly commends and congratulates Slcylar Diggins, a Washington High School Senior for the many <br />honors which she has earned in the classroom and on the basketball court, and as her former Coach Marilyn <br />Coddens stated, Skylar is "so versatile, with an inside and outside game. She is so knowledgeable and <br />unselfish...and offthe court she is a teacher's dream". <br />Section II The Common Council wishes Skylar Diggins continued success as an outstanding academic <br />student, as a gifted team leader of the South Bend Washington Lady Panthers Basketball Team this season, and <br />wishes her and her family the very best as she is recruited by almost every major collegiate program in the <br />nation. <br />Section III .
