COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMITTEE <br />The September 16, 2008 meeting of the Community Relations Committee of the South Bend <br />Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Henry Davis, Jr. at 5:10 p.m. in the <br />Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Persons in attendance included: Karen L .White, Ann Puzzello, Tim Rouse, Mayor Luecke, Gary <br />Gilot, Mary Ann Myers, Mikki Dobski, John Voorde, City Clerk <br />AGENDA: 2008 TACT CONFERENCE (OCTOBER 12-15) SOUTH BEND. INDIANA <br />Chairman Davis began by describing the mission of his committee as one which oversees the <br />various activities of the Office of Community Affairs and is charged with facilitating partnerships <br />and ongoing communications with other public and private entities operating within the City. <br />Councilmember Henry Davis went on to indicate he had initiated discussions with Mikki Dobski a <br />couple of weeks back to see how the Council might play a part in the upcoming TACT Conference <br />in South Bend. He said the Council wanted to provide a helping hand to host the conference. At <br />this point he turned to Mikki Dobski to outline the Administrations work on the Conference so far. <br />Mikki explained that each time the city hosted a conference the focus was on a new facility ie) <br />Hall of Fame, Coveleski, Century Center. This time the Studebaker Museum was to be <br />showcased Sunday, October 12, would feature a welcome party at the Museum with snacks, <br />beverages, and music by McPherson and the Struts. President Rouse interjected that he had <br />decided to cancel the October 13th meeting to allow Council Members to participate in the <br />conference. <br />Mary Ann Myers said Council participation was welcome and she would be providing sign-up <br />sheets for various volunteer time slots. <br />Mikki then asked Gary Gilot to describe the two concurrent mobile workshops he and Jeff Gibney <br />would be providing. Gary's will focus on environmental issues highlighting South Bend's progress <br />on Storm/Sanitary Sewer separation and on partnering with Notre Dame to warm the <br />greenhouses. Jeff Gibney will emphasize public-private partnerships and planning to boost <br />economic development. <br />The Mayor expressed appreciation to Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr. and the Council for their <br />willingness to help. <br />Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr. then asked that the handouts brought by Mikki be copied and <br />placed in Councilmember's mailboxes. <br />Under miscellaneous Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr. noted his success in getting Burkhart <br />Outdoor Advertising to dedicate to west side billboard to honor Olympian Leroy Dickson and <br />Skylar Diggins from Washington High School for her efforts with the U.S. Women's Basketball <br />Team. <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee, Chairperson Henry Davis, Jr. <br />adjourned the meeting at 5:52 p.m. <br />Respe y ubmi e ; <br />Henry Da ~ Jr on . <br />Community Relations Committee <br />
