Resolution No. <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY COMMENDING TANIA L. HARMAN OF THE WARREN PRIMARY CENTER FOR BEING <br />SELECTED THE 2009 INDIANA TEACHER OF THE YEAR <br />99w•eaa, the South Bend Common Council is especially proud to recognize Tania L. Harman, for being <br />selected as the 2008 Teacher of the Year by the South Bend Community School Corporation on April 15, 2008; and <br />`tae, Tania L. Harman is a bilingual grade one and two teacher at Warren Primary Center; is in her 20'' <br />year of teaching in the South Bend Community School Corporation, having previously taught at Kennedy, Monroe, <br />Lafayette and Wilson before coming to Warren Primary Center; and <br />99mwj, the South Bend Common Council notes that the Indiana Department of Education annually conducts <br />an Indiana Teacher of the Year Program which honors the "outstanding classroom teacher across the state" who is <br />"exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled"; who inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn; <br />has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues; plays an active and useful role in the community as <br />well as in the school; and is "poised, articulate, and possesses the energy to withstand a taxing schedule"; and <br />�l�p%rea.6, on September 22, 2008, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Suellen Reed, named <br />Tania L. Harman the 2009 Indiana Teacher of the Year from the 63 public and nonpublic educators who were <br />nominated by local school superintendents from across the state of Indiana for this coveted honor, and Tania L. <br />Harman will be honored at a dinner at the Hilton Indianapolis North on November 5`h; and <br />the South Bend Common Council believes that Tania L. Harman truly represents education <br />excellence at its best with Tania L. Harman being known for adjusting her teaching style to meet the needs of each of <br />her students, and especially those who are unfamiliar with the English language. Ms. Harman noted that: <br />"They came to this country seeking a better way of life, and I hold the key to that door <br />...Knowing my students is a powerful way to get to the heart of a lesson for each individual ". <br />�ou, ct3l�. e 4 tr red d, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby <br />publicly commends and congratulates Tania L. Harman, a bilingual grade one and two teacher at Warren Primary <br />Center for being named the 2009 Indiana Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, <br />which is the highest of all teaching honors in the State of Indiana. <br />Section II The Council wishes Tania L. Harman continued success as an outstanding teacher in the South <br />Bend Community School Corporation, and hopes that she will continue to add to her many honors the 2009 National <br />Teacher of the Year Award which will be announced in April of 2009 in Washington, D.C. <br />Section III . This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the Council and <br />approval by the Mayor. <br />Derek D.
