RESOLUTION NO. 3 ~ ~~ <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY COMMENDING AND HONORING HOMETOWN HERO LEROY DIXON FOR <br />PARTICIPATING IN THE 2008 SUMMER OLYMPICS HELD IN <br />BEIJING, CHINA <br />~~~~, the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXIX <br />Olympiad, took place in Beijing, People's Republic of China from August 6`" through August 24, 2008; <br />with a total of 10,500 athletes participating who represented 204 nations in 302 events; and <br />"~~, the United States of America was represented in the 2008 Summer Olympics by 596 <br />athletes, one of which included our own hometown hero, Leroy Dixon; and <br />"~-, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially proud to <br />recognize that on June 20, 1983, Leroy Dixon was born in South Bend to Sherlyn and Leroy Dixon, Sr., <br />and graduated from LaSalle High School in 2002 where he lettered in track, basketball and football; and <br />"~., Leroy Dixon went on to study at the Kansas City Community College and at the <br />University of South Carolina, where he earned his first All-American certificate in the 2005 NCAA <br />Outdoor Championships; and <br />"~., in 2007, Leroy Dixon was the World Outdoor 4 x 100m gold medalist and earned a spot <br />on the Team USA 4 x 100m relay pool for the 2007 World Outdoor Championships in Osaka, Japan, <br />where he earned a gold medal by running the anchor leg for Team USA during the opening round of <br />competition in Osaka and in the final, carrying the baton across the finish line and stopping the clocks in <br />37.78 seconds, which was the fastest time in the world in 2007; and <br />"~f~.,~, the Common Council acknowledges that the United States of America won 110 medals <br />in this year's Olympics with 36 being bronze, 38 being silver, and 36 being gold; and is especially proud <br />to further acknowledge that Leroy Dixon, as a member of the USA 4 x 100m Men's Relay Team. <br />~ou, C-'GT~~ ~ ~~a~~d, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common <br />Council hereby publicly commends and honors our own hometown hero, Leroy Dixon, for his excellent <br />work ethics, his dedication and discipline, and his superior athletic abilities as evidenced by participating <br />in the Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China. <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council is especially proud to recognize and honor Leroy <br />Dixon, who has brought the highest of honors to himself; his family and friends; and the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana. The Common Council sincerely wishes Leroy Dixon continued success. <br />Section III.
