PARC COMMITTEE <br />The September 8, 2008 meeting of the PARC Committee of the South Bend Common Council <br />was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Ann Puzzello at 4:00 p.m. in the <br />Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Committee Members present, Derek D. Dieter, Vice-Chairperson, Oliver Davis, Member, Martha <br />Lewis, Citizen Member. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Karen White, Aladean DeRose, Tim Rouse, <br />Tom LaFountain, David Varner, Mayor Luecke, Gary Gilot, Tom Price, Marty Wolfson, Rita <br />Kopala <br />Chairperson Puzzello stated that an update on the progress at the Greenhouse & Conservatory <br />will be given by Martha Lewis who serves as both Citizen Member on the PARC Committee and <br />Treasurer of the Botanical Society along with Terry DeRosa, Director, Potowatomi Zoo, who has <br />formed a working relationship with the Botanical Society and who has the responsibility to <br />oversee the facilities. Mr. DeRosa advised that bids have been requested to replace some the <br />straight glass in the greenhouses. He stated that they're working with Adams High School <br />students on a project to study carbohydrates that are given off by plants, and that the second <br />phase of the greenhouse heating project with the University of Notre Dame will start soon. He <br />noted that the music events at the greenhouses "have proven to be the most well attended of any <br />of the events that they have been doing. He stated that the events have been monthly and <br />feature different bands. He stated that the American Indian drummers and dancers are <br />scheduled for September 26, 2008, and ajazz/classical event in October is being considered. <br />Mr. DeRosa stated that the zoo is working with the Madison Center, Logan Center and Adult <br />Work Services to bring in more greenhouse volunteers. He said city grower Bob Monroe has <br />been doing an educational program in schools on plants and recycling. <br />There being no further business to come before the committee, Chairperson Ann Puzzello, <br />adjourned the meeting at 4:55 p.m. <br />Respectfully Submit d, <br />n zello, Chairper <br />PARC <br />
