REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 26, 2007 <br />Councilmember Roland Kelly made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in <br />its entirety and presenting it to the Coaches and the Members of the St. Anthony DePadua <br />Varsity Volleyball Team. <br />Chris Pajakowski, Assistant Coach, thanked the Council for this great honor. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this Resolution. <br />Councilmember made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. Councilmember <br />White seconded the motion which carried. <br />RESOLUTION N0.3722-07 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />PUBLICLY COMMENDING JOHN ADAMS <br />HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR <br />WINNING THEIR 7TH STRAIGHT MOCK TRIAL <br />STATE CHAMPIONSHIP <br />Whereas, the Indiana High School Mock Trial program is aimed to "stimulate and <br />encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the American legal system by <br />providing an opportunity for students to learn about the judicial system through ahands- <br />onexperience"; and <br />Whereas, through mock trials, high school students gain an understanding of <br />society's approach to dispute resolution and justice through an experiential learning <br />opportunity where they can acquire skills in critical thinking and reasoning, oral <br />advocacy, team work and citizenship involving a hypothetical case where mock trial team <br />members compete in actual courtrooms and display their knowledge; and <br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to <br />recognize that twenty-four (24) high schools from throughout the State of Indiana <br />recently competed in the Indiana High School Mock Trial State competitions; and that <br />the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team who won the Mock Trial State <br />Championship, making this the 7th consecutive year in which a John Adams team were <br />victorious as Indiana State Champions; and <br />Whereas, the Council would especially like to publicly recognize that the John <br />Adams High School Mock Trial Program is organized and sponsored by Judith <br />Overmyer, a teacher at John Adams; the local attorneys who serve as Mock Trial coaches <br />and volunteer countless hours of their time and talents in preparing the MOCK TRIAL <br />STATE CHAMPIONS for the State of Indiana, the Adams Mock Trial Renegades Team, <br />whose members include: <br />Claire Alvis Laura Jones Adam Rector <br />Ethan Jason Michael Smyth Katherin Yugo <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby congratulates each and every member of the 2006-2007 John <br />Adams High School Mock Trial Team, their program's organizer and sponsor, Judith <br />Overmyer, and their coaches for winning their 7th straight Mock Trial State <br />Championship, making this Renegade Team the best in the state! <br />
