REGULAR MEETING MARCH 26, 2007 Councilmember Roland Kelly made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its entirety and presenting it to the Coaches and the Members of the St. Anthony DePadua Varsity Volleyball Team. Chris Pajakowski, Assistant Coach, thanked the Council for this great honor. A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this Resolution. Councilmember made a motion to adopt this Resolution by acclamation. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried. RESOLUTION N0.3722-07 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, PUBLICLY COMMENDING JOHN ADAMS HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM FOR WINNING THEIR 7TH STRAIGHT MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP Whereas, the Indiana High School Mock Trial program is aimed to "stimulate and encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of the American legal system by providing an opportunity for students to learn about the judicial system through ahands- onexperience"; and Whereas, through mock trials, high school students gain an understanding of society's approach to dispute resolution and justice through an experiential learning opportunity where they can acquire skills in critical thinking and reasoning, oral advocacy, team work and citizenship involving a hypothetical case where mock trial team members compete in actual courtrooms and display their knowledge; and Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to recognize that twenty-four (24) high schools from throughout the State of Indiana recently competed in the Indiana High School Mock Trial State competitions; and that the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team who won the Mock Trial State Championship, making this the 7th consecutive year in which a John Adams team were victorious as Indiana State Champions; and Whereas, the Council would especially like to publicly recognize that the John Adams High School Mock Trial Program is organized and sponsored by Judith Overmyer, a teacher at John Adams; the local attorneys who serve as Mock Trial coaches and volunteer countless hours of their time and talents in preparing the MOCK TRIAL STATE CHAMPIONS for the State of Indiana, the Adams Mock Trial Renegades Team, whose members include: Claire Alvis Laura Jones Adam Rector Ethan Jason Michael Smyth Katherin Yugo Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council hereby congratulates each and every member of the 2006-2007 John Adams High School Mock Trial Team, their program's organizer and sponsor, Judith Overmyer, and their coaches for winning their 7th straight Mock Trial State Championship, making this Renegade Team the best in the state!
