South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -September 19, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(3) continued...
this area. Mr. Zahner responded he thinks
the chances are pretty good. He thinks it will
be important to carefully select the retail
developer. It should be a retail developer
who appreciates the area, who has a long
term vision for building this out to 40,000 sft.
Mr. Blake asked for a list of such developers.
Mr. Zahner thought there were many such in
Chicago. Mr. Kamicar suggested putting
together a developers' open house.
Mr. Blake noted that he does not want this
planning to go stagnant and have no positive
action.
Mr. Vitton noted that at the last committee
meeting, committee members indicated they
wanted to continue meeting to help the
planning get implemented.
Ms. Jones opened the discussion up to
anyone else for brief comments.
Mr. Radecki said he has lived three blocks
from LaSalle Square for 45 years. He is also
co-chair of the Lincolnway West Gateway
Association. He's known the area when it
was vibrant with lots of stores. The city
administration let it wander away and never
helped to get anything back in there. We've
got a chance now to revitalize the area. We
need to let these people go ahead and get it
moving. He wants progress quickly, not to
have it sit on a back burner.
16
