Airport Economic Development Area <br />(3) continued... <br />Mr. Kamicar noted that the plan was broken <br />out into a five, ten, and twenty-year outlook. <br />It is a particular challenge that the site does <br />not front onto the main thoroughfare, <br />Lincolnway. In order to help draw people to <br />the area, the plan suggests a median along <br />North Bendix and more community uses of <br />the site. The public library and Faith <br />Apostolic Temple are a good start, but more <br />traffic to the area is needed to draw the <br />additional retail. <br />Mr. Zahner noted that St. Vincent DePaul <br />operates a store at LaSalle Square, but they <br />don't nearly use the space they have. They <br />would like to remain in the area, but be in a <br />much smaller store. <br />Mr. Kamicar noted that the plan suggests that <br />the city acquire a portion of Honeywell's <br />parking lots, south of Prast Blvd. They could <br />be used as a landscaped buffer between the <br />retail and residential uses and that would <br />eliminate the eyesore that the parking lots are <br />now. The landscaping could include a trail to <br />Kennedy Park. <br />The plan also suggests creating a public plaza <br />that could be used for community events <br />such as the farmers' market or outdoor <br />movies. <br />Longer term (twenty-year) goals would be to <br />establish a community center with senior <br />activities and a trade school and to find a <br />developer to construct housing for a diverse, <br />14 <br />
