Jefferson Blvd (574) 235 -9321 <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 -1830 Fax (574) 235 -9173 <br />http: //w ..southbendin.gov <br />Members of the Common Council <br />0 Floor County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />Dear Council Members: <br />Re: Minimum Wage Resolution <br />We are pleased to introduce for your consideration the attached Resolution which calls <br />for action by the U.S. Congress addressing raising of the minimum wage. <br />So that you have relevant and current background information, we are attaching a copies <br />of the following documents: <br />• President Obama's Executive Order which he issued on February 12, 2014, along <br />with the 2 -page "Fact Sheet: Opportunity for All" Rewarding Hard Work" which <br />was issued by the White House that same day; <br />• Senate Bill No. 460 which was introduced by Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa on March <br />5, 2013 and now has thirty -three (33) co- sponsors; and <br />Oliver J. Davis At the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, a full -time employee would earn <br />Sixth District over the course of a year at total of $15,000 which is below the federal poverty line. <br />Derek D. Dieter Tipped employees have not had an increase sine; 1991, and still labor at the federal <br />At Large hourly rate of only $2.13. <br />Gavin Ferlic We request that this Bill be referred to the Personnel and Finance Committee and set for <br />At Large public hearing at the March 10th Common Council meeting. <br />Karen L.
