DERosE CHIEF ASSISTANT CITYATT'ORNEY Enclosed please find for your consideration an ordinance appropriating an additional $320,000 from the Self Insurance Fund to permit settlement of liability claims against the City for the remainder of calendaz yeaz 2001. As council members may recall, total expenditures from this fund during the first quarter of 2001 exceeded $249,000 because of the settlement of the a number of cases with significant liability exposure to the City. Although I expect expenditures from the fund for the second quarter of 2001 to be significantly lower, we will still have spent over $300,000 for the first two quarters of this yeaz in resolution of claims. The initial allocation to this fund was $430,000. There are two or three significant cases which we hope will settle during the second half of this year which will require expenditure of funds significantly in excess of the amount previously allocated. Therefore, we are requesting the appropriation of an additional $320,000 to the Self-Insurance Fund for payment of litigation claims expected to be settled or concluded during this calendar yeaz.
