3 <br />DWELLING, ONE FAMILY: A building designed for, or occupied <br />exclusively by one family. <br />DWELLING, TWO FAMILY: A building designed for, or occupied <br />exclusively by two families living independently and exclu- <br />sively of each other. <br />DWELLING, MULTIPLE FAMILY: See Apartment House. <br />FAMILY: One or more persons living in the same housekeeping <br />accommodations. One complete and separate dwelling unit.. <br />FRONTAGE: The contact of abutting property with a street which <br />affords unobstructed access to the property. <br />GARAGE, PRIVATE: An accessory building with capacity for <br />storing not more than three motor vehicles, and used for stor- <br />age only. <br />GARAGE, PUBLIC: A garage, other than a private garage, used <br />for the storage, care, repair or servicing of motor vehicles, <br />or where such vehicles are stored for remuneration or sale. <br />GRADE, ESTABLISHED: The elevation of the street grade in front <br />of a property as fixed by the engineering department of the <br />city. <br />HOTEL: A building in which lodging, with or without meals, <br />is provided and offered to the public for compensation, and <br />which is open to transient guests. Hotels include motels <br />and automobile courts, but do not include lodging houses and <br />tourist homes. <br />LODGING HOUSE: A dwelling in which more than two rooms and <br />less than eight (8) are let for hire, or more than five (5) <br />persons are given lodging for compensation. <br />LOT: A parcel of ground set apart by recognized boundary <br />lines, and having frontage upon a street. <br />LOT OF RECORD: A lot which is a part of a subdivision, the <br />map of which subdivision has been recorded in the office of <br />the Recorder of St. Joseph County, or for which a deed has <br />been recorded in the office of the Recorder of said County. <br />LOT, CORNER: A lot at the junction of two streets, with <br />frontage on two of its boundary lines. <br />LOT, INTERIOR: A lot with frontage on but one street. <br />LOT, THROUGH: A lot having frontage on two parallel or <br />approximately parallel streets. <br />LOT LINES: The boundary lines of a lot as herein defined. <br />MAJOR BUILDING: A building housing the principal occupancy <br />on a lot. <br />OCCUPANCY: The use to which a building or premises is de- <br />voted. <br />OCCUPATION, HOME: Personal services conducted in a home by <br />-• the occupant alone, not involving sales or display rooms. <br />PLACE: An open, unoccupied space, other than a street or <br />
