UTILITIES COMMITTEE <br />The July 28, 2008 meeting of the Utilities Committee of the South Bend Common Council was <br />called to order by its Vice-Chairperson, AI "Buddy" Kirsits at 4:40 p.m. in the Council's Informal <br />Meeting Room. <br />Committee Members in attendance included Council Member's AI "Buddy" Kirsits, Ann Puzzello, <br />Thomas LaFountain, Tim Hudak, Citizen Member <br />Others present were: Mayor Stephen Luecke, Gary Gilot, John Skomp, Kathy Cekanski-Farrand, <br />Council Attorney, John Voorde, City Clerk <br />BILL NO.08-68 URC ON BALLOT <br />Mayor Luecke stated that this is the expeditious approach. It will save time and money. <br />Mr. Gary Gilot introduced Mr. John Skomp, from Crowe, Chiszek & Associates. <br />Mr. Skomp presented a power point. <br />Mr. Gilot then passed out a handout stated the Top 10 Reasons for South Bend Water Works to <br />Opt Out of IURC. (Attachment) <br />Mayor Luecke stated that there will be a full blown campaign. <br />Councilmember Varner stated that he felt there was a conflict of interest. <br />Mayor Luecke advised that this will allow for an independent study if that is what the Council <br />wants. <br />Councilmember Kirsits made a motion to send this bill to the full Council with a favorable <br />recommendation.
