TO: Members of the Common Council
RE: Purchase of Pipe, Fittings and Valves
FROM: John L. Hunter, Superintendent of Utilities
The Notice to Bidders was published in two newspapers on
April 18 and 25, 1969. Bids were received and opened on May 5, 1969,
and referred to our department for consideration. The tabulation of
the bids were made and the contracts awarded May 7, 1969. We are
enclosing a copy of the Notice to Bidders, specification sheets and
tabulation sheets for your review.
There are a few points that should be called to your attention
1. We are shipping by truck. We do not have a
sidetrack to be used for rail delivery.
2. We bid both cast iron and ductile cast iron.
The majority of the pipe used is regular cast
iron. However, in some areas and conditions
we do use the ductile because it is stronger
and a better pipe. The contracts were
awarded on the basis of ductile so, if needed,
it can be purchased,
3. You will note that Clow Corporation is not
low on the 3 -inch and 2 -inch pipe. We
awarded the bid to them to be certain we can
get delivery when and if needed. There is a
small demand and use for this size of pipe in
our system.
