ORDINANCE NO. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE CITY CLERK <br />FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2014 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />The City Clerk serves as Clerk of the Common Council under Indiana Code § 36 -4 -6 -9 <br />and maintains custody of its records. The City Clerk is also charged with maintaining all records <br />as required by law; keeping the city seal; administering oaths; taking depositions; attending all <br />regular and special meetings of the Council; and performing other duties as required by the <br />Common Council. <br />The Common Council is required by under Indiana Code § 36 -4 -7 -2 to fix the annual <br />compensation of all elected city officers. <br />Indiana Code § 36- 4 -11 -4 authorizes the City Clerk to appoint "the number of deputies <br />and employees authorized by the city legislative body." In the interest of fairness, the following <br />ordinance sets forth the same percentage increase for the City Clerk as requested for the deputies <br />and employees in the City Clerk's Office. <br />The City Clerk currently oversees a staff of four (4) which includes the Ordinance <br />Violations Bureau. <br />r i:i � ri r rr �i r Gr r Gr r�i - Gr r��r r is r <br />� r <br />Section I. The annual compensation for the City Clerk of the City of South Bend, Indiana, for <br />calendar year 2014 shall be and hereby is established at $57,157.00 <br />Section II.
