1.
I
.TO: Members of the Common Council !•j
;.,
RE, Vacuum Catch Basin Cleaner and Flusher with
.i
Attachments and a Jet Rodder
•,'
FROM: John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities
,
i '.
The purpose of this piece of equipment is to clean and maintain
the sewer system (under 24- inches in diameter).,
The material, grit, small roots and debris are cleaned from the
!-
sewer lines to the bottom of the manhole by the high pressure het
it
4.-
rodder. The vacuum part of the equipment, either simultaneously or,,
intermittently, then lifts the debris from the manhole and deposits,_
it into the truck to be hauled away and dumped,
We propose to reduce the dragging crews from three to two crews,
thereby releasing three men to operate this unit. We will institute
a preventive maintenance program using this equipment.on sewer lines;
that have been cleaned during the past two years. In this manner we
can release the two remaining drag crews to use the bucket dragging
{'
system on sewer lines which have not been serviced for years and are
'
difficult to clean.
We are anticipating cleaning 400,000 feet of sewer per year with
this unit. The two remaining crews should be able to clean 100,000 to
120,000 feet of sewer per year.' This would give us a, possible two year
,
1
:i
.
I
I
H..
