ORDINANCE NO. l ~ ~ ~ ' y AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING CHAPTER 21, ZONING, ARTICLE 1, SEC. 21-1 DEFINITIONS, AND ARTICLE 2, DIVISION 9, SEC. 21-23 "C-2" PLANNED SHOPPING CENTER DISTRICT, USES PERMITTED, OF THE SOUTH BEND MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE A DEFINITION OF RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS AND TO ALLOW RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS TO BE LOCATED IN THE "C-2" PLANNED SHOPPING CENTER DISTRICT STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The purpose of this ordinance is to amend Chapter 21 of the South Bend Municipal Code to define churches and to allow them within the "C-2"_ Planned Shopping Center District. The Common Council of the City of South Bend recognizes its duty to enact zoning ordinances to promote the general health, welfare and safety of residents of the City of South Bend. Now, Therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: Section I. Chapter 21, Article 1, Section 21-1 Definitions, be amended by adding the following: (99.1 - 99.4) Reserved. (99.5) Religious institution means a building or portion thereof used to conduct religious services on a regular basis and shall include, but not be limited to, churches, synago~~ues, chapels, temples, and mosques. Section II. Chapter 21, Article 2, Division 9, Section 21-23 (a) Neighborhood Center be amended by adding the following: (34b - 34e) Reserved. (34f) Religious institutions. Section III.
