i
January 21, 1970
L
TO: Members of the Common Council
RE: Year's Supply of Water Meters
February 7, 1970 to February 7, 1971
FROM: John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities
FILED IN CLERK'S OFFICE
JAN 2 9, 1970
KATHRYN L. BLOUGH
CITY CLERK, SOUTH BEND, IND.
The Notice to Bidders was published in the South Bend Tribune and
Tri- County News on December 12 and 19, 1969. Bids were accepted
until January 5, 1970 at which time the Board of Water Commissioners
opened bids and referred them to our office for recommendation. The
bids are tabluated and the attached sheet shows the bidders and amount
of bid by unit and item. The asterisk (x) indicates the low bidder
while the circled figures indicate the bids awarded. All bids are
being awarded to the low bidder with the exception of Items 4, 5 and
7.
Items 7 and 8 were bid in two ways -- meters with connections and with-
out connections. We are purchasing them with connections since it
saves us money buying them in this manner.
The Crane Company is low bidder on Items 4, 5 and 7. We do not have
any of these meters in our system and it would require the additional
stocking of parts in our repair shop. Crane Company is new in the
field and we are not certain of their delivery and service at this
time.
We are awarding Item 4 to Badger Meter Manufacturing Company since
they are second low bidder. Item 7 is being awarded to Rockwell
Manufacturing Company on the basis of being second low bidder. Item
5 is awarded to Badger Meter Manufacturing Company so that we purchase
all of our outside reading meters from the same manufacturer.
