ORDINANCE NO. 5240 -70 AN ORDINANCE CREATING A DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TO PROVIDE FOR INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION WHEREAS, the City of South Bend, Indiana is desirous of increasing the employment opportunities and diversification of industry to improve the prosperity, economic stability and general welfare of the community, and WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Indiana enacted the "Municipal Economic Development Act of 1965 ", (Burns 48 -8701 through 48 -8725) and WHEREAS, a commission is needed to investigate, study and survey job opportunities, industrial diversification and economic stability, development and welfare of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and carry out the duties and powers as set forth in said Municipal Economic Development Act of 1965. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana as follows: SECTION I. 1. That there is hereby created the South Bend ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION to carry out the provisions of this Ordinance in accordance with the aforesaid 1965 Act. 2. That the members of said Commission shall be appointed and shall perform the duties and exercise the powers all as set forth in the aforesaid Municipal Economic Development Act of 1965. SECTION II. 1. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval by th� Mayer.
