ORDINANCE NO. 5257 -70 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4537 -62, <br />SEC. 3, BEING SEC. 11 -19 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE, RELATING TO ELECTRIC WIRING STANDARDS, <br />AS AMENDED. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of <br />South Bend, Indiana: <br />SECTION I. That Section 7 of Ordinance No. 3913, as <br />amended by Section 3 of Ordinance No. 4537-62, being Section 11 -19 <br />of the South Bend Municipal Code, be deleted in its entirety and <br />the following be inserted and adopted in place thereof: <br />"Sec. 11 -19 Electric Wiring Standards <br />"(a) The 1968 Edition of the "National Electrical <br />Code ", as promulgated by the National Fire <br />Protection Association, three copies of which <br />shall be kept on file in the office of the <br />Building Commissioner and made available for <br />public examination at all times during regular <br />business hours, is hereby adopted as the offi- <br />cial Electrical Code of the City of South Bend, <br />except for such changes, additions, or dele- <br />tions as are specified in this chapter." <br />"(b) Rigid conduit, electrical metallic tubing or <br />other approved raceways shall be used for all <br />wiring installed within Fire Districts one and <br />two of the city and in all public buildings, <br />multi- family buildings of four stories or more, <br />commercial garages, factories, governmental <br />buildings, schools, hotels, motels, motion <br />picture houses, theatres, hospitals, asylums, <br />warehouses, churches, office buildings and <br />store buildings within the city. Type AC <br />(BX) cable may be used only by special per- <br />mission obtained from the Building Commissioner. <br />Electrical metallic tubing or flexible metal <br />conduit shall not be used where exposed to <br />weather, wet locations or refrigerated areas." <br />SECTION II.
