ORDINANCE NO. 5415 -72 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF <br />POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1973 <br />(AS AMENDED) <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and members of the <br />police force of the City of South Bend for the year 1973, by <br />rank and classification shall be as follows: <br />Chief <br />Division Chief <br />Captain <br />Lieutenant <br />Sergeant <br />Corporal <br />First Class <br />Patrolman <br />Officer in <br />Patrolman <br />Training <br />$15,252.00 <br />12,555.00 <br />11,729.00 <br />11,122.00 <br />10,790.00 <br />9,968.00 <br />9,263.00 <br />8,559.00 <br />7,855.00 <br />SECTION II. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, the <br />officers and members of the police force shall receive compen- <br />sation for extra duty and special performance as follows: <br />For time spent in court appearances and overtime <br />work, as determined by the Chief of Police - $5.00 per hour; <br />For personnel required to work on legal holidays, <br />$32.00 per holiday worked; this shall apply to the following <br />eleven holidays and no others: <br />New Year's Day Labor Day <br />Lincoln's Birthday Columbus Day <br />Washington's Birthday Veterans Day <br />Good Friday Thanksgiving <br />Memorial Day Christmas <br />Fourth of July <br />For any police officer who elects to remain on <br />the department after 20 years of service, $100.00 per month; <br />provided, however, that such officer shall become eligible for <br />said payment only upon recommendation of the Board of Safety; <br />Education Incentive to be paid in addition to the <br />annual pay and all other compensation as follows: <br />For a bachelor's degree from an accredited <br />four -year college or university, or equivalent, <br />$1,500.00 per year; <br />For an associate paper or two -year degree or <br />equivalent, in an appropriate course of study, <br />$900.00 per year <br />For hours of credit in acceptable and appro- <br />priate college -level courses of study, $10.00 <br />per year per credit -hour for from one to sixty <br />credit hours, and $5.00 per year per credit - <br />hour for all credit hours in excess of sixty <br />up to a maximum of one hundred and twenty <br />credit hours; Credit hours used toward <br />incentive pay must be completed with a passing <br />grade. <br />
