								    ORDINANCE NO. 5399 -72 
<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 20 -18 AND 20 -55, 
<br />CHAPTER 20, VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, IN THE MUNICIPAL 
<br />CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, 1971. 
<br />The City of South Bend, Indiana, is authorized in Sections 
<br />20 -18 and 20 -55, Chapter 20, Vehicles and Traffic, in the Municipal 
<br />Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, 1971, to charge a fee for 
<br />violation of overtime parking regulations ( §20 -18), and to collect 
<br />parking meter charges for the use of space in a parking meter zone 
<br />( §20 -55)• 
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the 
<br />City of South Bend, Indiana: 
<br />SECTION I. Section 20 -18, Chapter 20, Vehicles and Traffic, 
<br />in the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, 1971, is 
<br />hereby amended to read as follows: 
<br />The owner or operator who has been notified of a violation 
<br />of the parking regulations, as herein provided, may, within forty - 
<br />eight (48) hours after being notified, answer at the office of the 
<br />Traffic Violations Bureau, to the charge of such violation as set 
<br />forth in such notice, and pay a prescribed fee of Two Dollars ($2.00) 
<br />in settlement of the offense or charge, or Five Dollars ($5.00) after 
<br />the expiration of the forty -eight hours. An acceptance of and payment 
<br />of the fee and the authority by the clerk shall be deemed complete 
<br />satisfaction for the violation and the violator shall be given a 
<br />receipt which so states. 
<br />SECTION II. Section 20 -55 Chapter 20, Vehicles and Traffic, 
<br />in the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, 1971, is 
<br />hereby amended to read as follows: 
<br />(a) Parking or standing a vehicle in a designated space in 
<br />a parking meter zone shall be lawful for twelve (12) minutes upon 
<br />deposit of a One Cent ($.01) coin, thirty (30) minutes upon the 
<br />deposit of a Ten Cent ($.10) coin, sixty (60) minutes upon the deposit 
<br />of two (2) Ten Cent ($.10) coins. All meters over one (1) hour shall 
<br />be two (2) Ten Cent ($.10)coins per hour. No person shall remain in 
<br />such parking space beyond the parking time limit set for such parking 
<br />space. 
<br />(b) The parking meters shall be operated in the parking 
<br />meter zone between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on any 
<br />Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and between the 
<br />hours of 8:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M. on any Monday, except holidays. 
<br />(c) Within the meaning of this Article, the term "holiday" 
<br />shall include the following days only: January 1, Memorial Day, the 
<br />Fourth of July, the First Monday in September, December 25, and the 
<br />day designated and set aside by the President of the United States 
<br />as a day of Thanksgiving. 
<br />SECTION III. This ordinance shall be in full force and 
<br />effect from and after its passage by the Common Council, its approval
