SECTION 6 -31 IDENTIFICATION <br />(a) Raised or recessed letters or numbers shall be used to <br />identify doors leading to public facilities required by <br />this section, as well as those emergency facilities required <br />by the provisions of other local codes and state codes. <br />(b) Raised or recessed identification mentioned above shall be <br />located at a height between three (3) feet and five (5) feet <br />from the floor, and between four (4) inches and twelve (12) <br />inches from the door jamb, on the side opposite the door hinges. <br />(c) Doors that are not intended for normal use, and that might prove <br />dangerous if a blind person were to exit or enter by them, <br />shall be made quickly identifiable to the touch by knurling <br />the door handle or knob, except exits designated for emergency <br />use. <br />SECTION 6 -32 SEATING ACCOMODATIONS <br />(a) Places of assembly with fixed seating arrangements in the <br />aforementioned buildings shall provide performance viewing <br />positions (parking space) for wheelchair persons in <br />accordance with the following schedule: <br />Capacity of Assembly Space Number of Viewing Positions <br />Up to 50 ... Minimum 3 <br />51 to 100 ....... Minimum 6 <br />101 to 500 ..................... Minimum 12 <br />501 to 1000 ..................... Minimum 16 <br />1001 to 1500 ..................... Minimum 20 <br />Over 1500 - Minimum 20 plus 1 for each 300 over 1500 <br />(b) Viewing positions for wheelchair persons shall be provided <br />in a reasonable and convenient section or sections of the <br />facility by either or both of the following methods. <br />(1) Providing portable seats which can be easily removed. <br />(2) Providing clear space devoid of any portable or fixed <br />seating arrangements. <br />These positions shall be located so as not to interfere <br />with egress from any row of seats, shall be reachable by <br />means of ramps and /or elevators, and shall not infringe <br />upon aisle requirements. <br />(c) There shall be no steps in the aisles or in the access <br />route to the performance viewing positions, but the aisles <br />may be inclined in accordance with the provisions of <br />Section 6 -24 (a). <br />SECTION 6 -33 HARD OF HEARING ACCOMMODATIONS <br />(a) Places of assembly in the aforementioned buildings shall <br />provide facilities and /or devices to enable persons with <br />hearing disabilities to participate fully in the activities <br />held in the place of assembly. The performance capacity <br />required of the facilities and /or devices should come as <br />close as possible to normalizing the hearing of the person <br />with the hearing disabilities, to the extent that available <br />and marketed technology permits. The hard of hearing <br />facilities and /or devices shall be maintained in operating <br />condition. <br />-7- <br />
