Department of Puidie Parks Administration Building St. Louis Boulevard at Wayne Street South Bend, Indiana 46619 May 239 1973 Mr. Peter J. Nemeth, Common Council President County -City Building 227 West Jefferson Boulevard South Bend, Indiana Dear Mr. Nemeth: The Department of Public Parks is requesting the Common Council to approve the enclosed ordinance. Last year, the Council approved an ordinance for the sale of approxi- mately three acres of land south of Erskine Golf Course which commonly was know as the Erskine Sod Nursery for $128,000.00. The Park Board sold this tract of land because of the commercial nature of the area and the danger of slow moving park equipment crossing the heavily traveled Ireland Road. This tract of land included a home for the greenkeeper and maintenance garage for all the equipment used on the golf course. Consequently, the funds appropriated from this ordinance must be used to erect a new greenskeepers home and maintenance garage. The cost of the new facilities will be approximately $96,577.60. The Council also passed an ordinance for the sale of a tract of land in the northeast corner of Potawatomi Park, 86' x 1341, for $5,860.00. This land was no longer needed for park purposes. Since change orders could take place in any proposed building con- struction, the Park Department is requesting that $131,800.00 be appropri- ated to account #7119 Buildings and Structures. When the building is finished, the Park Department will request the Council to transfer by resolution the balance, hopefully $359000.00, to account #739 Land so that additional land can be purchased, possibly in the Belleville Gardens area.
