CITY OF SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Jerry J. Miller
Mayor
Rollin E. Farrand, Sr., P. E.
Director, Public Works
Members of the Common Council
441 County /City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Gentlemen:
Reply To: Department
of Public Works
June 18, 1974
There will be an ordinance before you for first reading on June 24 appropriating
the sum of $10,000 from the Cumulative Sewer Sinking and Building Fund. This
money will be appropriated to CS -7, Reconstruction of Olive Street Sanitary
Trunk Sewer from Indiana Avenue South to Delaware Street.
These monies will be used to engage the engineering firm of Murphy Consultants
Inc., pending the Council's approval of this ordinance, to do a total assessment
of the situation and prepare final plans for remedying the problem.
In the last two years the Bureau of Sanitation has spent numerous man -hours and
money in the repair of this sewer. It seems that each time a repair is made, a
new problem arises in a new location. We believe that a new installation in
this area is the answer to solve our problems.
As far as the size of this problem is concerned, I feel that Councilman Kopczyn-
ski can attest to the need of this major repair.
Upon completion of the engineering phase, and the submission of a project cost
estimate, we will return to the Council with an appropriation to accomplish
the construction phase.
Feel free to contact me if there are any further questions.
Very truly yours,
r 6j"O.s 2. Ua
Michael L. Vance
Fiscal Officer
MLV:REF:amc
