E. <br />Director, Public Works <br />Members of the Common <br />County /City Building <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Subject: <br />Gentlemen: <br />Council <br />Leaf Vacuum Pick -up Attachments <br />Reply To: Department <br />of Public Works <br />April 16, 1974 <br />The Board of Public Works has awarded a contract, subject to Council <br />approval of the necessary funds, for four (4) front - mounted vacuum <br />leaf pick -up machines. These machines mount on the snow plow attach- <br />ment already in use on City Bureau of Street trucks. <br />These machines have a screw -type agitator to break up matted leaves so <br />that they will be picked up by the vacuum attachment. The fan for these <br />machines is approximately thirty (30) inches in diameter and will pick <br />up stones, cans, and even an occasional brick. <br />Leaves are picked up in the gutter at the curb line. <br />Boxes must be constructed on each truck to accept the leaves as they are <br />picked up off of the streets. The amount requested for the four machines <br />is $20,375.
