That the city purchase medium and small -size passenger cars to reduce initial cost, operating expenses, repair time, and to conserve funds. 2. That city -owned vehicles shall not be equipped with air conditioning unless funds are specifically approved by the Council. 3. That the number of city -owned vehicles be reduced. This should be based on miles driven for city business only. 4. That the vehicle identification number be used on all records pertaining to the purchase, operation and maintenance of each particular vehicle. 5. That a policy be established by the administration setting forth when a vehicle may be taken home overnight to a city employee's residence and under what conditions a city employee may receive a car allowance and /or mileage allowance in lieu of a city vehicle. The committee also recommends passage of an ordinance regulating city -owned vehicles. The committee intends to file the ordinance prior to the next regular Council meeting.
