ORDINANCE NO. 5651 -74 <br />AN ORDINANCE REGULATING SALARIES PAID TO <br />CITY OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The salaries of each and every appoin- <br />tive officer, employee, deputy, assistant and departmental and <br />institutional head shall be fixed by the Mayor, subject to the <br />approval of the Common Council, regardless of what local, state <br />or federal body provides the funds for said salaries, except as <br />otherwise provided by law. <br />SECTION 2. The Common Council may reduce, but in <br />no event is the Common Council authorized to increase, any salary <br />so fixed by the Mayor. <br />SECTION 3. City employees who perform services <br />for the city, other than governmental, which services are connected <br />with the operation of any municipally -owned utility or function, <br />may, within the discretion of the Mayor and subject to the approval <br />of the Common Council, receive additional compensation for the per- <br />formance of such services. No additional compensation shall be paid <br />by the city to any city employee without approval of the Common <br />Council. <br />SECTION 4. The provisions of this ordinance shall <br />not apply to the manner of fixing and the amount of compensation <br />paid by the city to the members of the Police and Fire Departments. <br />SECTION 5. This ordinance shall be in full force <br />and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and <br />approval by the Mayor. <br />-R� q <br />Member of the on Counhil <br />Passed April 8, 1974, as amended. <br />
