SPECIAL MEETING NOVEMBER 5, 2013 85 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in Special Meeting at 9:03 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in <br />the 13`h Floor Board Conference Room, County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson Blvd., South <br />Bend, Indiana, with Board President Laura Vasquez and Board Members Eddie Miller, John Collins, <br />and Luther Taylor present. Also present was Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Police Chief Ronald Teachman, <br />and Attorney Cory Hamel. Melinda Lercel, Engineering, was acting Clerk in place of Linda Martin, <br />Clerk of the Board. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />ACCEPT AND APPROVE HIRING OF PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICERS <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Miller, seconded by Mr. Collins and carried, the recommendation of Police <br />Chief Ronald Teachman that Bruno Martinsky, Brandon Lent, and Kyle Brownfield be accepted for <br />employment as probationary police officers with the South Bend Police Department was accepted <br />and approved. <br />SWEARING IN OF POLICE OFFICERS <br />- Bruno Martinsky <br />- Brandon Lent <br />- Kyle Brownfield <br />Mayor Pete Buttigieg was present and told the Probationary Police Officers that it is customary for <br />them to greet the Board of Public Safety Members and then he would say a few words. He wanted to <br />extend his congratulations on behalf of the entire community and himself. Mayor Buttigieg stated <br />that when the public sees you in uniform, they see the uniform; the way you carry yourself and do <br />your duty reflects on the City. Mayor Buttigieg thanked the families for their support of the officers <br />and noted that they too will be serving the citizens of South Bend as families offering support to the <br />officers. John V oorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office for the swearing - <br />in of the above officers. Police Chief Ronald Teachman welcomed the officers to the Police <br />Department. The Board of Safety joined Chief Teachman in congratulating the newly sworn in <br />officers and wishing them well in their endeavors with the South Bend Police Department. Mayor <br />Buttigieg invited the newly sworn -in officers and their families to join him in his office for <br />refreshments. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, Ms. Vasquez declared the meeting <br />adjourned at 9:28 a.m. <br />BOAR �OF PUBLIC Sfjk�ETY <br />Laura A.
