E. <br />Director, Public Works <br />South Bend Common Council <br />County /City Building, Room 441 <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Gentlemen: <br />Reply To: Department <br />of Public Works <br />August 29, 1974 <br />The ordinance before you covers the design of two intersection areas <br />in the City of South Bend. <br />The evaluation and redesign of the Williams Street intersection is <br />intended to provide for an easier and more efficient movement of <br />traffic from Wayne Street, which is one -way westbound, to south- <br />bound Lafayette Boulevard and to Western Avenue westbound. This <br />design will provide a connection for West Wayne Street and will <br />include an evaluation of adjacent intersections. <br />The Portage Avenue intersection is a troublesome five -point inter- <br />section with traffic movements being further complicated during the <br />school season by the movement of school children through the <br />intersection. <br />Very truly yours, <br />,ems <br />Rollin E.
