Page 2
Common Council
July 17, 1974
From February, 1974 to June, 1974 the Overtime Foot Patrol provided
7,062 hours of police service at an average cost of $5.00 per hour.
They accounted for 25 arrests, which included Assault and Battery,
Burglary, Drugs, Larcenies, Traffic and Liquor Law violations. The
Overtime Foot Patrol officers assisted the regular patrol cars in the
designated area 278 times and tallied over 700 contacts with businessmen
during the course of their patrols.
The Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Police emphatically
feel that the Overtime Foot Patrol is worth the cost in dollars, time
and manpower. The benefits described above, along with the increased
feeling of security and cooperation by the residents and businessmen
in Tract #29 more than substantiate total program costs.
The Overtime Foot Patrol has proven a successful program in crime reduction
and police- citizen relations and is presently in need of continued funding
so that its success will continue.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Patrick Gallagher
CC: Roger Parent
Public Safety Subcommittee
