CITY OF SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Jerry J. Miller
Mayor
Rollin E. Farrand, Sr., P. E.
Director, Public Works
Members of the Common Council
South Bend, Indiana
Gentlemen:
Reply To: Bureau of
Design & Administration
July 1, 1974
There are currently many projects both public and private planned for the
area to the Northwest of the present City Limits. Two of the more obvious
public projects are the bypass and the proposed Cleveland Road extension.
As this area develops, the need for sewers and other utilities develops
naturally.
To anticipate this development, we are now asking you to appropriate
$22,000.00 to fund the engineering study and the preparation of construction
plans for a trunk sewer extending from the termination of the "Cleveland
Road Sewer" at Portage Avenue and Cleveland Road to Brick Road and the
Bypass. We anticipate construction costs of $350,000 to,$400,000 for this
sewer.
This sewer will ultimately service the area north of the Toll Road to the
State Line. This area is located within the proposed Northwest Annexation.
The proposed sewer routing is consistent with the "Community Facilities and
Public Utilities Plan" prepared for the Area Plan Commission.
Based on the above, we recommend that you appropriate the requested funds
and in turn, confirm a contract entered into (subject to appropriation of
funds) between the City and Kent Kaser and Associates to provide the required
engineering.
Very truly yours,
Rollin E. Farrand, P.E.
Dire r
David A. Wells, P.E. - Manager
Bureau of Design & Administration
DAW /mkm
