ORDINANCE NO. 5794 -75 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE <br />MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, PERTAINING TO THE <br />EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City <br />of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION 1. Section 2 -21 (c) of Article 4 of <br />Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, shall be amended to read as follows: <br />(c) The director of each department <br />shall be responsible for the direction of <br />all duties and functions of all agencies <br />within the department and for the coordina- <br />tion of related duties and functions between <br />or among agencies within the department. <br />The Director of Public Safety <br />shall coordinate activities of the police <br />and fire forces with other departments <br />and agencies, provide research and grant <br />supervision, and shall also serve as a <br />member of the Board of Safety. In no <br />event shall the Director of Public Safety <br />serve as the executive head of the police <br />or fire forces. <br />The Chief of Police shall have <br />exclusive direction and control of the <br />police force, and the Chief of the fire <br />force shall have exclusive control and <br />charge of such fire force, subject to the <br />rules and regulations and orders of the <br />Board of Public Safety. <br />SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be in full force <br />and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and <br />approval by the Mayor. <br />Passed January 13, 1975, as amended. <br />
