CITY OF SOUTH BEND
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Jerry J. Miller
Mayor
Rollin E. Farrand, Sr., P. E.
Director, Public Works
Members of the Common Council
4th Floor, County -City Building
South Bend, Indiana
Gentlemen:
Reply To: Department
of Public Works
November 20, 1974
There will be before you for first reading on November 25, an ordinance trans-
ferring funds within the Bureau of Solid Waste.
There is a surplus in Account 261.0 Landfill charge. This was caused by
St. Joseph County reducing their rates to larger users by 25 %. Also there was
roughly $7,000.00 reappropriated from revenue sharing funds in 1973. For
1975 the budget has been adjusted to reflect these lower fees.
In discussing the 1975 Bureau of Solid Waste budget in caucus with you, we
discussed the purchase of 3 new cab and chassis to update our fleet of trucks.
For this you appropriated $27,000.00 in the 1975 budget. At that time I voiced
my opinion that this would not be adequate to cover the expected cost of the
trucks we were specifying. I believe it was agreed that I bid the equipment
and then approach you for the difference by transfer of existing surplus.
On November 18th the Board of Public Works opened bids for the above vehicles.
Shamrock Ford of South Bend was the low and only bidder at $31,412.71, quoting
a delivery of 4 months. With $27,000.00 budgeted for 1975, I need to come up
with $4,412.71 to cover the balance of the bid price. The additional $2,587.29
will be used to transfer the 3 packer bodies.
The $2,500.00 transfer to account 321.0 Gasoline & Repairs is being requested
after reviewing the present condition of our equipment, in reference to what
it has cost to maintain it thus far in 1974, and in relation to the conditions
of winter weather it must yet face.
