Department of Pablie Parks
Administration Building
St. Louis Boulevard at Wayne Street
South Bend 17, Indiana
January 22, 1975
Mr. Roger Parent, President
South Bend Common Council
County- City - Building
217 West Jefferson Boulevard
South Bend, Indiana
Dear Mr. Parent:
The Department of Parks is requesting the Common Council to approve
the enclosed ordinance appropriating $4,100.00 from the General Park
Fund to Account 46260.0, Other Contractual Services.
The $4,100.00 will help pay for the remaining construction cost of
the Bicentennial Park. As you are aware, the City of South Bend re-
ceived a $40,000.00 grant from the American Revolution Bicentennial
Commission (A.R.B.C.) for Bicentennial Park development. Work had to
D be started on this park by January 15, 1975 or the City would have
lost the $40,000.00 grant. Originally, the funds for the park work
were included in the $1_7 million dollar bond issue.
The $4,100.00 that is being appropriated from the General Park Fund
is the first partial payment from the A.R.B.C. grant. As required,
this money was deposited in the General Park Fund and must be appropri-
ated before spent. Since no funds were budgeted in the 1975 budget
for Bicentennial Park these funds are needed for Bicentennial Park
development.
Very truly yours,
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PARKS
James R. Seitz,
Superintendent
JRS:kb
cc: All Common Council Members
