He thanked Amy Roush for organizing and coordinating the program and tracking the <br /> volunteer hours during the year. <br /> There will be close to 20,000 hours by the end of the year. The comparable value is nearly <br /> $500,000. <br /> 4. Director St. Clair discussed the 2014 budget with the Board. <br /> VIII. Comments by the Deputy Director <br /> 1. Ms. O'Connor reported that the South Bend Community School Corporation is doing a <br /> collaborative program at Rum Village. It is the seventh annual Intermediate School <br /> Morningstar Run. <br /> 2. The Fall Family Fun Fair will be held this Saturday at RumVillage. <br /> 3. The adult programming will start this week. <br /> 4. Leeper Tennis Center will close for the year on October 7 and open volleyball opens that <br /> evening. <br /> 5. Softball fall leagues end October 14. <br /> 6. River City basketball league registration is ongoing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. <br /> 7. Afterschool programs attendance is up at the Centers. <br /> 8. Aqua Aerobics begins this evening. <br /> 9. Silver Sneakers will begin this month at the O'Brien Fitness Center. <br /> 10. A guided bus trip to Mackinac Island and northern Michigan left today and will return <br /> Saturday. Rose Kaufman, the Senior Center Director, is leading the trip. <br /> IX. Comments by the Development Director <br /> 1. A joint board training session with the Parks Foundation and St. Joseph County <br /> Foundation was presented by Steve Walter. He felt it was a worthwhile endeavor. <br /> 2. Mr. Payton said that they are busy marketing the Fall Family Fun Fair this weekend. <br /> 3. The "What's Up"newsletter is going out every week. <br /> 4. We are working with a class at IUSB that is doing a project on the public perception of <br /> the parks. <br /> 5. Master planning public meetings are being scheduled and he will provide the Board with <br /> the dates when they are available. <br /> X. Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> 1. Ms. Sharon Smith, Food and Gift Manager, informed the Board that Ms. Arriaga just <br /> returned from the AZA conference. <br /> 2. Security cameras are being installed in animal areas and public areas. <br /> 3. The golden lion tamarins have had twins. <br /> 4. Veterinarian interviews start this week. <br /> 5. Staff from Fort Wayne Zoo will do a mock AZA inspection this week. <br /> 6. International Red Panda Day will be celebrated this Saturday. <br /> - - 3 - - <br />
