ORDINANCE NO. [ 0 ZS to 3 AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARY FOR THE CITY CLERK FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2014 STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT The City Clerk serves as Clerk of the Common Council under Indiana Code § 36 -4 -6 -9 and maintains custody of its records. The City Clerk is also charged with maintaining all records as required by law; keeping the city seal; administering oaths; taking depositions; attending all regular and special meetings of the Council; and performing other duties as required by the Common Council. The Common Council is required by under Indiana Code § 36 -4 -7 -2 to fix the annual compensation of all elected city officers. Indiana Code § 36- 4 -11 -4 authorizes the City Clerk to appoint "the number of deputies and employees authorized by the city legislative body." In the interest of fairness, the following ordinance sets forth the same percentage increase for the City Clerk as requested for the deputies and employees in the City Clerk's Office.
