NEMETH, Mayor <br />COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601 <br />May 4, 1977 <br />Members of the Common Council <br />441 County /City Building <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />RE: R & S 92 - Riverside Drive Improvement Project <br />Dear Councilmen: <br />219/284 -9251 <br />The attached ordinance, appropriating a total of $65,000, will enable the <br />Department of Public Works to enter into a contract for the reconstruction <br />of Riverside Drive for a distance of approximately 1,000 feet at its inter- <br />section with Northview Drive. <br />The roadway which exists at this location is a good deal sharper than those <br />encountered on the roadway north of this location. As a result, during <br />inclement weather, it is not uncommon that southbound drivers will lose con- <br />trol of their vehicles and leave the roadway, crossing the sidewalk and <br />coming to rest in the lawn area of the abutting property owners. In that <br />this segment of sidewalk is heavily travelled by not only local residents <br />but also school children, this Department has proposed improvements which <br />will result in the reconstruction of this section of roadway, the result of <br />which will be a more gradual and better defined curve. <br />Your favorable concurrence is requested. <br />Very truly yours, <br />atrick M.
