NEMETH, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
South Bend Common Council
Council Chambers, 4th Floor
County -City Building
South Bend, Indiana 46601
Dear Council Members;
March 23, 1977
"r/otii
Q F
W
//VDIM AN
219/284 -9742
The attached bill provides first year start -up funding for the
Office of the Code Enforcement Hearing Officer. It is contem-
plated that the Code Enforcement Hearing Officer will be a part -
time position staffed by an attorney whose duty it will be to
hear evidence on housing code violations which are brought to him
by the Building Commissioner. In view of the volume of work which
this office is expected to handle, a full -time secretary is
budgeted.
In order that a full and complete record of the proceedings
before the Code Enforcement Hearing Officer may be kept, a
request is made in the budget for tape recording equipment from
which an intelligible verbatim transcript can be made where
necessary. The budget also provides for postage costs in the
amount of $1,000.00, which costs will be necessary as all
notifications will be sent certified mail to violators and
which is required as a part of the Code Enforcement Hearing
Officer's duties.
This ordinance is filed in conjunction with the ordinance
appropriating $40,000.00 from the General Revenue Sharing Fund
for Contractual Services.
Since
Controller
