Ordinance No. <br />Bill No. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARIES FOR THE <br />COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 2014 <br />STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT <br />Indiana state law provides in Indiana Code .§ 36 -4 -7 -2 (b) that: <br />"The city legislative body shall, by ordinance, fix the annual compensation of all elected <br />city officers ". <br />Indiana Code § 36 -4 -7 -2 (c) provides that: <br />"The compensation of an elected city officer may not be changed in the year for which it <br />is fixed nor may it be reduced below the amount fixed for the previous year". <br />This ordinance proposes a maximum 2% increase for 2014 which is consistent with the raises <br />being proposed for other non -sworn employees of the City of South Bend. <br />ox"nI /r <br />as follows: <br />Section I. The maximum salaries for the members of the South Bend Common Council in <br />calendar year 2014 shall be established as follows: <br />2013 <br />$17,581 <br />2014 <br />$17,933 <br />Section II.
