REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 8, 1957 <br />SERVICES PERSONAL $11,895.00, TO FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -38 GENERAL SUPPLIES $1,000.00; FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT <br />Q451, PARTS OF EQUIPMENT, $4,770.00: FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -726 OTHER EQUIPMENT, $5,375.00; ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE <br />CIVIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND FOR 1957, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY, Respectfully report that they have <br />examined the matter and that in their opinion it should be reported favorable. <br />/s/ George W. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 4173 <br />AN ORDINANCE TRANSFERRING FROM FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -11, Services Personal, $11,895.00 <br />TO FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT Q -38, General Supplies, $1,000.00; FIRE DEPARTMENT ACCOUNT <br />Q -451 Parts of Equipment, $4,770.00; FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -721 Furniture and Fixtures, $750.00; <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Q -726 Other Equipment, $5,375.00; ALL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE CIVIL CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND FOR 1957, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY. <br />The Ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent (Councilmen Korpal, <br />Tellson and Muszynski). <br />ORDINANCE NO. 4174 <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE SOUTH BEND CITY WATER WORKS AND DELPHI <br />BODY WORKS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ONE DELPHI BODY PRINT NUMBERED 1251 (REVISED) OR ITS <br />EQUIVALENT PAITED AND MOUNTED AT FACTORY FOR THE SUM OF $2,439.50 <br />The Ordinance was given first reading by title and second reading in full. Councilman Carr made a motion for sus- <br />pension bf, rules. Councilman Kroll seconded the motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, <br />3 absent (Councilmen Korpal, Tellson and Muszynski). The Ordinance was then given third reading and passed by a <br />roll call vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays. 3 absent. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />The Clerk read the following communication from the City Engineer: <br />July 8, 1957 <br />REPORT OF CITY ENGINEER: <br />TO: THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: <br />This is to advise you that I personally had a conversation with Mr. Bruce Gaffil, Jr., and he has promised that <br />he will have the area cleaned up in order to satisfy the neighbors in that vicinity. <br />At the Board of Public Works and Safety Meeting this morning, the Heads of the Departments of Police, Health and <br />Fire, were alerted to make inspections of this area. <br />RAY.ANDRYSIAK <br />(St. Louis and South Bend Avenue) City Engineer <br />T <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion that the report be accepted and placed on file. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Councilman Kroll made a motion that the City Engineer make an investigation to determine whether or not there is <br />a Hancock Street and if so what can be done about sidewalks or a street in the 1100 block of Hancock Street., and <br />that a report be made -;to the Council at the July 22nd meeting of the Council. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />Councilman Christman made a motion that the guard rail installed at the intersection of Angela Boulevard and <br />Woodward Avenue, which has been torn down by a car, be repaired forthwith. Councilman Carr seconded the motion. <br />Motion cartied. <br />Councilman Erler asked that the Board of Public Works and Safety instruct the Police Department to check the filling <br />station at the corner of Indiana Avenue and Main Street for oil on the sidewalks and puddles of water. He asked <br />that a report be made at the July 22nd, 1957, meeting. <br />Councilman Glass made a motion, seconded by Councilman Christman, that the Clerk be directed to write to the Board <br />of Water Works Commissioners regarding the odor present in the water, and that something be done to relieve the <br />bad odor. Motion carried. Report back on July 22, 1957. <br />Councilman Kroll presented a letter from the Polish - American Central Civic Committee, with attached resolution, <br />to the Clerk who read same.
