COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING <br />MAY 14TH, 1956 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Committee of the Whole <br />meeting in the Council Chamber, Monday, May 14th, 1956, at 8:10 P.M. (C.D.S.T.), with all members present except <br />Councilman Hahn. Councilman .Carr, Chairman, presided. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT BECAUSE OF RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, <br />NATIONAL ORIGIN OR ANCESTRY BY EMPLOYERS, EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES, LABOR ORGANIZATIONS AND <br />OTHERS, PROVIDING FOR THE CREATION OF THE SOUTH BEND FAIR EMPLOYMENT PRACTICE COMMISSION, <br />PRESCRIBING ITS DUTIES AND POWERS, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES <br />Councilman Korpal presented proposed amendments to the ordinance which were read.by the Clerk, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard on the above ordinance. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Korpal, and seconded by Councilman Muszynski, to approve the amendments to the <br />ordinance. A motion was made by Councilman Christman to amend the amendment. This motion was not seconded. Roll <br />call vote was then had on Councilman Korpal's motion. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, 0 nays, 1 <br />absent. Councilman Christman then made a motion to amend the amendment, which motion was seconded by Councilman <br />Glass, by adding the words "or political affiliation" to certain sections. Roll call vote of 5 nays, Councilmen <br />Carr, Korpal, Tellson, Kroll and Muszynski; 3 ayes, Councilmen Christman, Glass and Erler. Motion lost. Council- <br />man Korpal made a motion that the ordinance, as amended, be reported to the Council as favorable. Motion seconded <br />by Councilman Kroll. Motion carried by a roll call vote of 8 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent. <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the Whole, Councilman Korpal made a motion to adjourn, <br />which motion was seconded by Councilman Muszynski. Motion carried and the Committee of the Whole meeting ad- <br />journed at-8:.28 P.M. <br />------------------------------------------------------------------- - - - - -- <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MAY 14th, 1956 <br />An Ordinance appropriating $3,040.00 from the General Fund,,whi.ch had been set for public Hearing in the Committee <br />of the Whole on May 14th, 1956, was continued until May 28ths at which time public hearing will be had. <br />------------------------------------------------ - - - - -= -------------------------------------------------------- <br />ATT APPROVED: <br />CLERK CHAIRMAN <br />
