ORGANIZATION MEETING <br />JANUARY 2, 1956 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers of <br />the City Hall, Monday, January 2, 1956, at 7 :34 P.M., Central Standard Time, pursuant to a call for Special <br />Meeting for the purpose of electing officers for the year 1956. Mayor Edward F. Voorde called the meeting <br />to order and asked the members to stand for a moment in silent prayer, each in his own way. The following <br />Councilmen were present: Councilmen -at -Large George W. Carr, Stanley C. Korpal and Albert Tellson; 1st <br />District Councilman Julius B. Christman, Jr.; 2nd District Councilman Joseph T. Kroll; 3rd District Council- <br />man Walter Glass; 4th District Councilman William A. Hahn; 5th District Councilman Walter Erler; 6th Dis- <br />trict Councilman Chester Muszynski. The Clerk read the call and, there being no objections, the call <br />was accepted and placed on file. <br />Councilman Carr nominated Councilman Korpal for President of the Council. The nomination was seconded by <br />Councilman -at -Large Tellson. There being no further nominations, Councilman Hahn moved that the nomina- <br />tions be closed. Councilman Gl"S seconded the motion. Motion was unanimously carried. Upon roll call, <br />Councilman Korpal received 9 vot64 (Councilmen Carr, Korpal, Tellson, Christman, Kroll, Class, Hahn, Erler <br />and Muszynski) - O nays. Upon the vote being announced, Councilman Korpal was declared duly elected Pres- <br />ident for the year 1956, and presented the gavel by Mayor Edward F. Voorde. <br />President Korpal presided and called for nominations for Vice- President of the Council. <br />Councilman Kroll nominated-Councilman Hahn for Vice President of the Council. Councilman Christman seconded <br />the motion. Councilman Carr moved that the nominations be closed. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. <br />Motion was unanimously carried. Councilman Erler moved that the Clerk cast a-unanimous ballot for Council- <br />man Hahn. Clerk cast a unanimous ballot fqr Councilman Hahn. Councilman Hahn wa s declared the duly <br />elected Vice President for the year 1956. <br />Councilman Muszynski nominated Councilman Carr for Chairman of the Committee of the Whole. Councilman <br />Hahn seconded the motion. There being no further nominations, Councilman Erler moved that the Clerk be <br />instructed to cast a unanimous vote for Councilman Carr for.Chairman of the Committee of the-Whole. <br />Motion was seconded by Councilman Glass. The Clerk cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Carr. Council- <br />man Carr was declared the duly elected Chairman of the Committee of the Whole. <br />President Korpal asked for nominations for Member of the City Plan Commission. Councilman Kroll nominated <br />Councilman Muszynski. Nomination seconded by Councilman Carr. There being no other nominations, Council- <br />man Muszynski was unanimously elected as Member to the City Plan Commission. <br />Councilman Erler made a motion that the Clerk cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Muszynski. The Clerk <br />cast a unanimous ballot for Councilman Muszynski. .Councilman Muszynski was declared the duly elected <br />Member to the City Plan Commission. <br />There being no further business, Councilman Carr made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Hahn. Motion carried and the Council adjourned at 7:45 P.M., Central Standard Time. <br />ATTEST: <br />CLERK <br />
