COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING <br />MAY 23RD, 1955 <br />olss <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Committee of the Whole meeting in <br />the Council Chamber, Monday, May 23rd, 1955, at 8 :13 P.M. (E.S.T.), with all members present. Chairman Hahn <br />presided. <br />ORDINANCE <br />"An Ordinance supplementing Ordinance No. 3709, approved July 12, 1949, commonly known as "Municipal Code of <br />the City of South Bend, Indiana, 1949" and being Section _ Chapter , being an ordinance prohibiting <br />discrimination in employment because of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry by employers, <br />employment agencies, labor organizations and others, providing for the creation of the South Bend Fair Employ- <br />ment Practice Commission, prescribing its duties and powers, and providing penalties ". <br />Proponents and opponents-were given an opportunity.:tobe heard on the above ordinance. <br />Councilman Muszynski made a motion that the ordinance be reported to the Council as favorable. Councilman <br />Korpal seconded the motion. Motion lost by a roll call vote of 4 ayes (Councilmen Korpal, Pinter, Niezgodski <br />and Muszynski) - 4 nays (Councilmen Erler, Bestle, Glass and Hahn). <br />There being no further business before the Committee of the whole, Councilman Glass made a motion to adjourn, <br />which motion was seconded by Councilman Korpal.
