Erler Sr., who presided. <br />The members of the Council were shown to be present or absent as follows: <br />Present: Councilmen Walter C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, <br />Michael Pinter, Cloyd Bestle, Clem Niezgpdski, <br />Walter Glass, William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. <br />Absent: None. <br />COMMUNICATION <br />Hon. John A. Scott <br />Mayor, City of South Bend <br />City Hall <br />South.Bend, Indiana <br />Dear Mayor Scott: <br />In regard to the issue of year -round Daylight Saving Time, the Board of Directors has instructed me to inform <br />you of the following facts: <br />At the Board of Directors meeting on October 29, 1954, the Board went on record in favor of year -round Daylight <br />Saving Time acting upon its own authority as a Board. of Directors, and simultaneously directed that a referendum <br />be sent to the membership at large on this issue. <br />In due course a referendum was mailed to the voting members of the Association of Commerce, asking them to state, <br />a preference as to the present basis of time or changing to year -round Daylight Savings Times and providing them <br />with space tp make comment. The returns of this referendum have been analyzed and are as follows: <br />Percentage <br />of Returns <br />preferring present <br />time basis <br />(C.S.T.) <br />10.6% <br />Percentage <br />of Returns <br />preferring year -round <br />Daylight Saving Time <br />(E.S.T.) <br />89.3% <br />Percentage <br />of Returns <br />non - committal <br />0.1% <br />In view of this analysis, the Board of Direotors in a meeting today reaffirmed its position in regard to favor- <br />ing Daylight,Saving Time and declared that to be the policy of the Association of Commerce as a broad, <br />representative body of business, industrial and professional interests, and, furthermore, desire the change be <br />made November 28, 1954, <br />Cordially yours, <br />JPL :hg <br />James P. Councilman <br />Niedggddk :-seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />Councilman Korpal made a motion that any individual wishing to speak for or against Eastern Standard Time be <br />granted the opportunity and allowed two minutes. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />
