Chamber on the 13th day of September, <br />1954, at the hour of 8 :14 P.M. in regular session in accordance with the rules of the Council* <br />The meeting was called to order by the President, Walter C. Erler Sr., who presided* <br />The members of the Council were shown to be present or absent as followst <br />Present: Councilmen 'alter `C. Erler Sr., Stanley Korpal, <br />Michael Pinter, Cloyd Bestle, Clem Niezgodski, <br />Walter Glass, William Hahn and Chester Muszynski. <br />Absents None. <br />REPORT OF q*F1TT8Z`` ON`VINUTES <br />To the `Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br />Your Committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes, would respectfully report that they have inspected <br />the minutes of the previous meeting of the Council and found them correct. HAHN ) <br />August 30th, 1954. <br />Councilman Muszynski moved that the report be accepted. Councilman Bestle seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />COMMUNICATION <br />TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA: <br />The undersigned duly licensed owners and operators of taxi -gabs in the City of South Bend respectfully petition <br />for a raise in taxicab rates from the present level of <br />thirty (30�) cents for the first one - fourth (1/4) mile, and five <br />W) cents for each one - fourth (1/4) mile thereafter <br />to thirty (30�) cents for the first one -fifth (1 /5) mile, and five <br />(5�) cents for each one -fifth (1/5) mile thereafter. <br />We would respectfully show as followst <br />1. The present taxicab rates in South Bend are lesser than the prevailing taxicab rates in ofties of comparable <br />size and eoonomia_;situation. <br />2. They are not sufficient to enable the drivers of said taxicabs to earn a living wate. <br />3e They are, not sufficient to enable the owners and operators of taxicabs to earn a profit upon their investment <br />and thus permit them to remain in business, <br />4.
