6t" District Council Member Oliver Davis, Council Vice-President
Contact: 876-6938
NEWS RELEASE September 5, 2013 11:15 a,m.
,FOUR WINDS FIELD at STANLEY COVELESKI STADIUM
The following comments are those of City Council President Derek Dieter. Derek could not be
here today, as he and his wife Suzy, are at Fort Sill Oklahoma for their son's graduation from
US Army boot camp.
"FOUR WINDS FIELD at STANLEY COVELESKI STADIUM..........WOW, That is definitely a big
league name. First class all the way-just like the South Bend Silverhawks and Four Winds."
I am very proud to have been invited, and to be a part of this historic event. As a lifelong baseball fan
I can't tell you what this partnership means for the South Bend community. Andrew Berlin and Joe
Hart have been the biggest things to happen on the south end of downtown since the
Studebaker's. Their vision and more importantly, their actions, have made a tremendous impact on
the city. Not only by employing local residents and contributing new revenue to the community, but
by becoming a tourist destination for people from across the region.
An unbelievable fan base has been started through the Silverhawks franchise and it is growing
daily. With the leadership of Andrew Berlin and Joe Hart, their staff, and addition to the fantastic job
of manager Mark Haley, this entire group of people has taken the Silverhawks to a different level.
Now, with the addition of Four Winds, the South Bend franchise has a "clean-up hitter", one that
brings their own tremendous commitment to making this community a great place to live.
Four Winds has been quietly supporting local charities in this community and others for years. Now
they bring even more positive investment to South Bend. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians
was key to South Bend's economic past, and is once again a key partner in South Bend's economic
future.
A big THANK YOU to the Silver Hawks and Four Winds for their partnership, and a statue of
Stanley Coveleski in center field is the perfect way to honor his legacy. This is definitely a
"double header' sweep for South Bend."
Comments by South Bend Common Council Vice-President Oliver Davis -
"I would also like to share my gratitude with the addition of Four Winds to the Stanley
Coveleski Stadium. "Four Winds" will help us to attract people from all four corners of the City
of South Bend — East, West, South & North, which give us the winds beneath our wings to
continue to enhance the quality and beauty of our baseball stadium. Let's Play Ball!!!"
