ORGANIZATION MEETING <br />JANUARY 2ND, 1951 <br />WNTE <br />Us• <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in the Council Chambers of <br />the City Hall, Monday, January 2nd,,,1951, at, 7:38 P.M., pursuant to'a call for Special Meeting for the purpose <br />of electing officers for the year 1951. The Honorable George A. Schock calla& the meeting to order and the <br />following Councilmen were present: Councilmen -at -Large Stanley Korpal and Albert Tellson; 1st "district, <br />Councilman Cloyd A. Bestle; 2nd District, Councilman Clem Niezgodski; 3rd District, Councilman Walter Glass; <br />4th District, Councilman Alvin P. Kemper; 5th District, Councilman Walter C. Erler, and 6th District, <br />Councilman Chester E. Muszynski. <br />The Honorable George A. Schock called for nominations for President of the Council for the year 1951. <br />Councilman Muszynski nominated Councilman Niezgodski for President of the Council. Councilmen Korpal seconded <br />the nomination. Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Erler, Councilman Tellson made a motion that the <br />nominations be closed. Councilman Niezgodski seconded the motion. Upon roll call, Councilman Niezgodski <br />received four votes (Korpal, Tellson, Niezgodski, Muszynski) and Councilman Erler received four votes ( Erler, <br />Bestle, Glass, Kemper). <br />5- MINUTE RECESS <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion for a five minute recess. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried, and Council recessed for five minutes. <br />Upon reconvening, Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Tellson for President. Councilman Muszynski seconded <br />the nomination. .Councilman Erler made a motion that the nomination be closed. Councilman Glass seconded the <br />motion., Motion was unanimously carried. Upon roll call the following result was hadr 4 votes for Niezgodski <br />(Korpal, Niezgodski, Kemper and Muszynski); 3 votes for Tellson ( Erler, Tellson and Glass); 1 vote for Erler <br />(Bestle). Upon the vote being announced, Councilman Niezgodski was declared being elected; President for the <br />year 1951. <br />Councilman Niezgodski nominated Councilman Kemper for Vice- President. Councilman Bestle seconded the <br />nomination. Councilman Glass nominated Councilman Erler. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the nominations <br />be closed. Councilman Muszynski seconded the motion. Motion carried, and upon roll call Councilman Kemper <br />received five votes (Korpal, Bestle, Niezgodski, Kemper and Muszynski), and Councilmen Erler received three <br />votes ( Erler, Tellson and Glass). <br />Councilman Muszynskl made a motion that the appointment of a member to the City Plan Commission be referred to <br />the City Attorney for opinion. Councilman Korpal seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />There being no other business, Councilman Erler made a motion to adjourn, which motion was seconded by <br />Councilman Tellson.
