531 <br />DECEMBER 13TH, 1948 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in regular session in the <br />Council Chamber, December 13th, 1948, at 8110 P.M., with all members present. President Niezgodski presided. <br />The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />COMMICATION <br />To the Mayor and the City Council <br />of the 'City of South Bend, Indiana <br />Greetings: <br />November 29, 1948 <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />We, the undersigned, as designated representatives of the occupants of Southmore and Beacon Heights, do hereby <br />respectfully requests <br />"That the City Council let their original resolution, designed to acquire these projects from the <br />Federal Government, stand as is. <br />"That the City Council pit in writing, a copy thereof to be forwarded to above named Committees, that <br />the City Council, when the Federal Government concedes to the City of South Bend to buy said projects, <br />will waive this right in favor of Tenant organizations". <br />For Southmore Heights., <br />(3 Signers) <br />For Beacon Heights: <br />(4 Signers) <br />Councilman Erler made a motion that the =aommanication be accepted as read and placed on file. ION <br />To the Common Council <br />City of South Bend, Indiana <br />November 23, 1948 <br />The undersigned owners of property herein described respectfully petition your honorable body to amend the <br />zoning law of South Bend as it applies to: A parcel of unplatted land at the Southeast corner of East Colfax <br />Ave. and Eddy Street, being 158.6 feet frontage on Colfax Ave. and 18769 feet South from Colfax Ave. on Eddy <br />Street and being rectangular in shape. <br />This land now lies partly in the "B" residence district and partly in the "A" residence district. The height <br />and area district is also part "A" and part "B" on an irregular pattern f or which there is no apparent reason. <br />The undersigned petitioners pray that this entire parcel be made "B" residence and "B" height and area district <br />JOHN L. Motion carried. <br />PETITION <br />The Honorable Mayor and :Common Council of the City of South Bends November 5, 1948 <br />We, the undersigned citizens of South Bend, living and residing within reasonable distance of the railroad <br />trains passing through our city, are greatly annoyed at all hours of the night by sounding whistles and <br />ringing bells on such locomotive engines at highway crossings and would request you to pass an ordinance <br />providing that it would be unlawful to sound the whistle and ring the bell at such crossings as are <br />protected by a watchman or automatic signal device, except in cases where it is apparent that a pedestrian <br />or vehicle is in a place of danger. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />(26 Signers- Residents of Sunnymede and <br />the area South of Sunnymede) <br />The Honorable Mayor and Common Council of the City of South Bend: November 1, 1948 <br />We, the undersigned citizens of South Bend, living and residing within reasonable distance of the railroad <br />trains passing through our city, are greatly annoyed at all hours of the night by the noises from the <br />skrieking whistles on the trains and would request you to pass an ordinance in the interests of our health <br />and nervous systems to at least partially relieve us of this disturbance. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />(84 Signers- Residents of Sunnymede and <br />the area South of Sunnymede and residents <br />in the vicinity of the Test side of the <br />city) <br />Councilman Nrler made a motion that the petitions be referred to a joint committee of City officials and <br />Railroad officials, and copies of same be given to Ernest Miller, Traffic Engineer, to refer to the Railroad <br />Committee for discussion. Councilman Glass seconded the motion. Motion carried. <br />
