<br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred "An ordinance providing for the annexation of certain territory
<br />to the City of South Bend, Indiana (Belleville Unit A Proposed).
<br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this ordinance shall be reported
<br />favorable.

<br />The ordinance was given third reading. A roll call was ordered and immediately there4m a motion was made by
<br />Councilman Tellson to lay the ordinance on the table until the next meeting on August 9th >fof1 third reading:

<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING THE SUM OF FIVE HUNDRED ($500.00)
<br />DOLLARS FROM THE GENERAL FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,
<br />INDIANA, TO THE FOLLOWING INDICATED BUDGETARY ACCOUNT C -36,
<br />OFFICE SUPPLIES, OF THE 1948 BUDGET IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY
<br />CLERK, AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY.
<br />This ordinance was given first and second reading. Councilman Korpal made a motion that the ordinance be referred
<br />to the Committee of the Whole for Public Hearing on August 9th, 1948, at 8:00 P.M. Councilman-Bestle seconded
<br />the motion. Motion carried.

<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING FROM THE GENERAL STREET AND TRAFFIC
<br />FUND OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, OF THE FOLLOWING AMOUNT
<br />TO THE FOLLOWING INDICATED ACCOUNT OF THE 1948 BUDGETS STREET
<br />DEPARTMENT, S -53, REFUND$, .AWARDS AND INDEMNITIES, $2,000.00,
<br />AND DECLARING AN EXTRAORDINARY EMERGENCY.
<br />This ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 8 ayes - 0 nays.
<br />ORDINANCE NO. 3652 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2331, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING
<br />ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH. BEND, INDIANA.
<br />This ordinance was given third reading and passed by a roll call vote of 7 ayes - 1 nay (Bestle).
<br />RESOLUTION
<br />WHEREAS, on the 19th day of December,. 1945, the City of South Bend leased from the Bendix Avation Corporation, a
<br />tract of unimproved land within the City Limits, known as Lots numbered ninety -one (91) to one hundred sixty -one
<br />(161) both inclusive in Westchester Second Unit, a sub - division within the City of South Bend, Indiana, for a
<br />term ending December 31, 1947, for the purpose of providing tempoikary housing for returning veterans and their
<br />families, and
<br />WHEREAS, on January 21, 1948, the said lease was extended, by a supplemental agreement with the City of South
<br />Bend, to September 30, 1948, with the understanding that no further extension would be made, other than for
<br />liquidation after complete vacation of the -project, and
<br />WHEREAS, the units now occupying said lots are of such type as not to permit same to be moved to any other site
<br />and there being no site available, and
<br />WHEREAS, tenants now occupying units are now in reality; residents by sufferance, and continued rentals of units
<br />until liquidation would create a hardship at the last moment of occupancy:
<br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON
<br />COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
<br />THAT FOR THE PURPOSE OF FULFILLING THE TERMS OF THE AFORESAID LEASE,
<br />FROM AND AFTER AUGUST 1, 1948, ANY AND ALL VACANCIES ARISING WITHIN
<br />THE BENDIX SITE OF PROJECT IND -V -12223 WHICH PROJECT IS SITUATED ON
<br />LOTS DESCRIBED HEREIN ABOVE, BE AND THE SAME ARE HEREBY ORDERED TO
<br />REMAIN VACANT AND NOT SUBJECT TO RMITAL DURING THE PERIOD BETWEEN
<br />SAID DATE AND ACTUAL LIQUIDATION.
