AUGUST 26th. 1 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the 'City of South "end, Indiana, met in regular session <br />in the Council Chambers, -Cit Hall, .August 26th, 1946, at 9:4.5 P.M., with all members present. <br />President Korpal presided. The reading of the Minutes of the previous meeting was waived. <br />COMMUr1ICAT IONS <br />Two communications from Mrs. Lyla Maye °:Crosby - Coffman, were read. One communication was in regard to <br />the proposed Ordinance on Fire Protection for South'Bend and the other in regard to bennhes being <br />transferred from the Parks to the downtown area, especially on the Court House Lawn and line them around <br />the 'Court House Wall, for use by persons waiting for their bus. <br />Councilman Heideman made a motion that the communications be placed on file. Councilman Bishop seconded <br />motion. Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />August 20th, 1946. <br />Members of the :Common Council, <br />City Hal 1, <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />Gentlemen: <br />At a regular meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety held on Monday, August 19, 1946, Mr. Qualls, <br />Superintendent of the Electric Department, informed the Board that street lights ordered in at Calvert <br />and Catalpa Street and Nash and Dubail Streets, more than a year ago had been installed and were now in <br />service. <br />In reply to your inquiry regarding street lights at 24th and Hastings and 30th and Hastings, a report <br />_has not-been received on the 24th Street intersection, but upom Mr ..Qualls recommendation, a copy <br />of ;which is attached hereto, the Hoard ordered a light installed at 30th and Hastings Streets. <br />We.are also attaching a copy of Mr. Qualls report relative to a street light at Huron Street am <br />the railroad crossing and copies of ojr letters to the two railroads involved. <br />Very truly yours, <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY <br />James B. Councilman Bishop seconded the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />TO THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND: <br />August 26, 1946 <br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was _referred an Ordinance transferring the following amounts from <br />the indicated budgetary accounts to the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, to- wit: From <br />Pll- Salaries - $13,435.:00; from Qll- Salaries - $650.00; from W1.1- Salaries - $500.00; making an emergen cy <br />appropriation from the General Fund of the City of South Bend, Indiana, of the following amounts to the <br />following 1dicated budgetary accounts: P333- Tires and Tubes- '$400.00; P342- Laundry and Cleaning- $35.00; <br />P726 -Other equipment - $13,000.00; Q252- Repa °ir of Equipment - $650.00; W252- Repair of Equipment $500.00; X1261 -0t: <br />contractual Services - $500.00; Declaring an emergency, <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion this Ordinance should <br />be reported to the Council favorable. <br />Councilman Niezgodski made a motion that the report be accepted. Councilman Bishopsecondgd the motion. <br />Motion carried. <br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />TO THE COInMON COUNCIL OF THE :CITY OF SOUTH BENDSt, <br />August 26, 1946. <br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred an Ordinance as Amended appropriating moneys for the <br />purposes of defraying the expenses of all Budget- operated department of the Civil City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 1947, and ending.December 31, 1947, including <br />Department, Funds and Commissions for which money is appropriated, in whole or in part, from funds <br />other than the General Funds of said City, to -wit: Street, Traffic and Park .Departments, Firemen's <br />Pension and Policemen's Pension funds, and the :City Plan (Commission: Providing that such appropriations <br />shall include all outstanding claims and obligations: fixing the salaries of all City Officials and <br />Employees: Providing paid vacations for certain officials and employees: repealing all ordinances and <br />parts of ordinances in conflict herewith: Providing a Time when the same shall take effect. <br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter and that in their opinion the Ordinance should go to <br />the Council as Amended, <br />SMER "DEPARTMENT- Total should be amended to read $43,772.72 instead of $33,772.72. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT- Salary of the Lineman should be amended to read $5,728.00 instead of $5,528.00. <br />Total should be amended to read $28,063.25 instead of $2,863.25. <br />VETERAN SEii'IICE !COMMISSION- Total of Service — Contractual should be amended to read $235.00; Supplies Total <br />400.00 and Properties 150 0.00. <br />TOTAL GENERAL FUND.- Should be amended to read $1,490,167.57 instead of $1,475,695.97. <br />TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT - Total of Traffic Department Personal Services should be amended to read $17,259.71 <br />instead of 17,741.21. <br />Total of Traffic Department should be amended to read $32,714.71 instead of $33,196.21. <br />Grand Total of Street and Traffic Department should be amended to read $342,488.01 instead of $342,919.51 <br />PARK MAINTENANCE FUND- Total Park Maintenance Fund should be amended to read $200,076.48 instead of $199,076, <br />
